Day One

 

• Bright blue skies, tree lined streets and thick Spanish accents floated amongst the restaurants.

• Our morning was spent immersed in one of the finest collections of Goya’s artwork at the Museo Nacional del Prado. 

• After lunch we strolled in the gardens where pumpkins patches hung high in the air, ornate water fountains lined the paths and families gathered in between shaded squares. The chirp of tourists lined up along the bank edge. Couples rowed in tiny boats, circling the lake. 

 

Day Two 

 

• We arrive in the cool morning air as we dropped from the clouds. Our mighty Fiat 500 speed down the highway towards the coast. 

• The Sea breeze crept around our ankles and the blue green water wrapped around the inlet like a carpet. Sail boats bob in the bay, waves lap at the ochre coloured beach. 

• In Old town, the church bells tolled. For lunch, pintxo, served at the bar standing. Beef cheek with creamy mash potato, cod croquets , pork belly with mustard, apple and pistachio crust. Acidic white wine poured from high in the air as clients press tightly together.

 

Day Three

• The Gothic Quarter was teeming with alleyways and open squares revealing a medieval past with a contemporary hub of curious boutiques and enticing nightlife. 

• We drank wine with keen new friends gazing over the Basilica of Saints Justus and Pastor. 

• Late into the night we sat in open squares, music wafting through the air and conversations flowing freely between tables

 

Day Four  

​

• Days are long, days are magical in Monte Carlo. 

• Elaborate flower displays, majestic chandlers and intricately titled floors. Fast cars, wine bars and Michelin star restaurants. 

• At sunset we cruise from the Port De Fontvieille, Cap d’Ail to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat bathing in the Mediterranean sea.
